In partnership with the Musée de la Civilisation de Québec, this pioneering project aimed to create immersive, interactive 3D augmented soundscapes, delivering a truly unique auditory experience that reacts in real time to each visitor’s position and head orientation.

Cocktails Solutions Inc. was entrusted with designing a bespoke embedded solution integrated into custom audio headsets. Each headset combines an Ultra-Wideband (UWB) sensor, an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a microcontroller capable of streaming real-time data via USB-C, capturing visitors’ movements and head orientation in the exhibition space.

Our team contributed expertise in:

  • Embedded electronics design of the headset
  • Firmware development for the microcontroller
  • Development of a web service and interface to monitor visitors’ positions, head orientations, and equipment health in real time
  • Design and optimization of the UWB network, antenna placement and capacity planning to support up to 75 visitors simultaneously
  • Ongoing maintenance and support for the headsets

This project is a prime example of Cocktails Solutions’ multidisciplinary approach, blending electronics, embedded software, IoT, and web interfaces to bring high-value interactive experiences to life.

The Musée de la Civilisation de Québec continues to deploy this innovative system in exhibitions such as Sur paroles: Le son du rap queb, Trouver refuge, and other future installations.
